Clark Plays Guitar: Meet Clark's Band

Oz Amaro - Drums, vocals, rhythmic joojoo

Clark is extremely particular about his music, and has very high standards for the musicians who help him bring the concerts to life. The material is demanding & difficult to perform, and in addition to flawless performances, Clark looks for a high level of showmanship in his band. He has found a drummer who delivers on all fronts,  and delivers in spades. Meet Oz Amaro:

Oz has been drumming for over 3 decades, having studied jazz, fusion, rock, metal, and progressive rock. Originally from Havana, Cuba, Oz's favorite players are Billy Cobham, Louis Bellson, Tommy Aldridge, Carmine Appice, & Mike Portnoy.  He has worked with many local bands such as Rat Baxter, Windfall, Lyrics, The Talk, Skywalker and has also appeared on the recordings of many solo artists. Oz has traveled extensively, giving professional drum lessons and drum clinics.

Oz plays a 1982 Ludwig Classic Power Tom drum kit with 15 toms, 16 cymbals, 6 wood blocks, two snares, 7 cowbells and 2 tambourines. Some would say that his kit is over-the-top, but since the Clark OzDrums1.jpgPlays Guitar concert experience is all about going over the top, Clark says Oz's kit is just right. (More pictures are in the Photos section) Oz has also willingly embraced performing on the Amazing 9-Headed Whirling Drum-of-Doom, something that strikes fear deep into the hearts of mere mortal drummers.

Oz is married, with one son who also plays drums and guitar.

Darryl Andrus - bass guitar, vocals, musical mojo

When Clark began to assemble his band, he made it clear that he wanted a bassist who would be able to provide a rock-solid groove, totally locked in with the drums, creating a sound that would make an audience move their feet. There are lots of bassists that can fill that bill. But Clark also wanted someone that could seamlessly transition into subsonic fretboard fireworks, playing harmony & unison lines right alongside Clark's own 6-string acrobatics. Given the complexity, speed, & unconventional musicality of what Clark does, finding a bassist  that could shift between human-groove-machine and low-frequency shred-head was a tall order. To further complicate things, he needs to sing, have a great stage presence, and be an all around good guy.

Enter Darryl Andrus.Darryl1.jpg

Darryl (whose last name is pronounced Andrews) has been playing bass for decades, thundering across stages all over the midwest with bands such as Stronghold, Freedom Speaks, and others. His list of favorites includes Dream Theater, Mr Big, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Iron Maiden, just to name a few.

Darryl2_resized.jpgWhen Darryl steps onto the stage he means business. His pursuit of musical excellence is obvious in every note, and his desire to provide an amazing time for the audience is evident from the second the lights come up. Whether he is locked into a fist-pumping groove with Oz, or flying though 32nd-note unison runs with Clark, Darryl gives every performance, every audience member absolutely everything he has in order to make each show unforgettable. And to top it off, he is indeed an all around good guy, with a great sense of humour.
